Greens Chews

I must confess. I did not think the chew was doing too much to help me in my health walk. I mean, they tasted good, & were fun to eat. They helped me curb my appetite a little & some carb cravings, but nothing really off the hook. I am usually healthy 99% of the time, so I wasn't really seeing too much benefit. Fast forward to today. I have been bed ridden for the last 3 days with what I am guessing was the flu. I am not a believer in the flu shot, since,
  • They cannot guarantee that they are inoculating you with the flu you may or may not get and
  • there are just too many bad stories out there.
I am not here, though, to fight the flu dilemma.

I AM here to tell you that, after being very sick, there was nothing more amazing to my taste buds than
  • the sweet antioxidant taste of 20 cartons of blueberries
  • the boost it gave my whole body
  • vitamins high in beta-carotene, Vitamins E & C
  • the boost it gave my body's natural defenses against free radicals
What's the big hoopla about free radicals? Here is the scoop from www.healthkart.com:

What are antioxidants and free radicals?
Let’s understand what antioxidants and free radicals are in a detailed manner. An antioxidant is a molecule that can inhibit the oxidation process going on within our body. Our body cells use oxygen through a chemical reaction called oxidation in which the electrons are transferred from a substance to an oxidizing agent. The nature or environment you live in project various instances of oxidation. Rusting of a metal or rotting of a fruit is nothing, but oxidation. But have you ever imagined that the same thing happens within your body as well? Well it does and this process of oxidation within us releases a harmful byproduct called free radicals.
It is the free radicals that bring much havoc in our body, damaging and deteriorating the functioning of vital organs, thereby making us really sick. Free radicals, once released, enter into chain reactions, giving a death-blow to the body cells. They react with the DNA or cell membrane, destroying the cell completely. But if you provide your body with ample antioxidants, you can check the release of free radicals or inhibit the chain reactions. Antioxidants eliminate free radical intermediates like ascorbic acid, polyphenols or thiols  from your body and in doing so they actually dismiss the chain reactions. The oxidation inhibiting capacity of antioxidants may be attributed to their self-oxidizing property. They, in other words, get oxidized themselves and thus ward off free radicals from your system.

Bottom line, is that I feel so much better since taking my Greens Chew and I will not take advantage of my Greens Chews again! Keeping healthy is key!!
